Fruits of the Freezer was created to fill a food need that is not being filled elsewhere in the community. Groups create frozen meals that can be delivered to folks who are newly housed or living in low income apartments that have no kitchens. (It is common in Sioux Falls for old motels to be converted into low income apartments.)

Many congregations of all denominations in the area have some sort of ministry that gathers people together to create freezer meals for people who are homebound, have been recently released from the hospital, or are going through treatment and illness. We dream of partnering with these churches to make additional meals for folks who are newly housed and living in poverty.

It is bigger than meals though. It is an opportunity for us to make meals together and have conversation about the ministry of Church on the Street with churches who might be struggling financially themselves. Often times churches feel that all they are being asked for is money. We actually want people’s time. We want people’s hearts. We want folks to hear the stories so that they can pray for those living in poverty and those on the streets. And maybe, while doing this, we can lift up some leaders in those churches or groups who want to step out of their comfort zone and help deliver the meals – to begin to have relationships with people who might live differently than them.
