September 2021 Prayers

sept.jpeg

Good day, Friends,

There is rarely a day when I am not impressed by someone I meet or something I see. This morning, a red fox ran through my yard in broad daylight and seemed to stop and bid me good-day before scurrying away in what looked more like a bunny hop instead of a stealthy run. A good day back to you, Mr. Red Fox.

Then, I got in my car, and Elton John's Tiny Dancer was blaring out of my speakers (no judging, people- I dig 70's classic rock). I still remember hearing that song for the first time after starting Church on the Street and having a whole new perspective on the lyrics "Jesus freaks out of the street handing tickets out for God." (wink)

I took a call from a Church on the Streeter who wanted to "stop in and visit," which is always a pleasant surprise as I typically am the one meeting people where they are at, no matter what that looks like. How nice, I thought. How nice.

And as I was sitting down to write something to you for this newsletter, I heard the sound of the organ playing in the chapel at First Lutheran, steps from my office. Soon there was singing that lured me into a midmorning chapel service with no strings attached, simply the Word of God, the people of God, and a communal break in what seems like a world full of stress, anxiety, grief, and pain. And, while I stood there lulled by musical chords flowing from the balcony, I felt a sense of peacefulness, steadiness and knew I was being filled back up.

This brings me to you! These prayers are full of hard things. They are filled with real people and real struggles. They are people we love and people we care deeply for. But we also care about you. So, if you are struggling with life at this moment, how about picking just a couple of prayers from this list and praying for them each day? If we all do that, everyone will be covered. And how about we pray for each other, the pray-ers as well. Let's care for one another. Take the time to be impressed with someone or something, and find joy where you can. You matter!

Hear me say: YOU are loved, YOU are enough, YOU are a child of God.

May the Lord Bless you and keep you,
Pastor Rebel
